Working in Nebraska newsrooms, resources required staff to take their own photos but provided cameras to do so, and reporters often posted their own content to social media.
These skills of the trade weren't hindrances, rather--along with the people--some of my favorite parts of the job. It opened doors to becoming the newspaper's digital media editor, when we made our web analytics goal for the first time in nine months. Corporate responded by increasing our goal, and we just kept meeting or exceeding it.
Now having worked in both newsrooms and marketing, don't make me choose between conversations or writing, fun social media posts or writeups, SEO keywords or Instagram reels. The more I learn, the more I love it all.
